Perhaps you’re still recovering from all that festive over-indulgence, or maybe it’s the cold weather. Or it could just be that, like many of us, there are a hundred and one other things you’d rather do than exercise. Keeping up a regular fitness regime can be hard at the best of times, so throw in a good dose of the January blues and it’s incredibly tempting to hibernate until spring at least. As a serial winter exercise dodger, I know this feeling all too well, so I’m counting on some good accessories to keep me motivated.
1. A decent bra
Hitting the gym or joining a running club is a lot more appealing if you’ve got the right support system in place. And no, I don’t mean cheerleaders (although that could also be helpful). 2. Proper trainers
Having spent much of my previous gym stints feeling like an absolute fraud compared to the Lycra-clad gurus next to me, I have come to appreciate that professional workout gear is half the battle. Nothing beats a flashy pair of Nike trainers when it comes to looking the part, and the right footwear is also really important for avoiding injury.
3. A fancy watch
Whilst I’m not a huge fan of wearing makeup or jewellery while training, a sporty watch can be useful for tracking your workout, especially if you’re running outdoors. Chrono24 has plenty of fancy sports watches that don’t necessarily look like typical training gear but are particularly solid and shock-absorbent. Because, yes, I like to know how much longer I’ve got left until I can reasonably get away with calling it a workout.
4. The iPod shuffle
And, finally, the absolute mother of all workout accessories has to be the iPod shuffle. This little gem clips onto your sleeve or trouser pocket and gives you tune after tune as you run, making you (almost) forget that you are even exercising. Who needs a personal trainer when you’ve got the likes of Beyoncé and Queen in your ear? Don’t stop me now, I’m having such a good time…
